Quick answer
What is an AI call center? It is a call center where AI handles the routine calls and supports the people who handle the rest. AI voice agents answer and place calls, book appointments and answer from your documents; AI answering machine detection screens outbound calls; live assist, transcription, summaries and automatic scoring help human agents. Calls the AI cannot finish go to a person on the same platform. Judge it by verified resolutions and cost per resolution, not by how many calls the AI kept.
Definition
What is an AI call center, in plain terms?
A call center has always had two kinds of work: conversations that need a person, and a large pile of repetitive calls that do not. An AI call center gives the second pile to AI and uses AI to make the first pile easier for the people doing it.
In practice that means two layers working together. The front layer is AI that talks to customers: an AI voice agent that answers inbound calls, runs outbound calls and books appointments. The support layer is AI that works for your team: answering machine detection on outbound campaigns, live transcription and suggestions during calls, summaries afterwards and automatic scoring of every call. Underneath both sit the ordinary parts of a contact center: numbers, queues, agents, recording, consent rules and reports.
The term AI contact center means the same idea across messaging as well as voice: WhatsApp, SMS, email and chat handled in the same place as calls. DialerBee is built as an AI contact center platform, so everything on this page applies to both.
What an AI call center is not
Not a bot that replaces your team
The useful version takes the repetitive calls and hands the rest to people. Complaints, disputes and sensitive conversations still belong to humans.
Not an IVR with a nicer voice
An IVR makes callers fit its menu. An AI voice agent holds a conversation, answers from your documents and completes a task such as a booking.
Not a voice API on its own
A voice API gives you a talking model. Queues, agents, recording, consent rules, reporting and the handoff are still yours to build.
Not a chatbot bolted to the phone line
Voice has interruptions, accents and silence. Callers cut in, and the agent has to stop and listen, which is why barge-in matters.
The AI in DialerBee
What does AI do in a call center? Twelve jobs, one platform
Each card is live in the product today and links to its own page. Most AI features are switched on per tenant; AI features are off by default.
AI voice agent, inbound and outbound
Layla answers calls routed to it from a number in your DID inventory and runs outbound AI campaigns against a contact list, with AI callbacks of its own. It answers from your documents, speaks only catalogue prices and hands off to a human agent.
AI voice agent →AI receptionist
The same agent on your front-desk number: questions answered from your knowledge base, appointments booked, moved or cancelled after a free-busy check, and a person when the caller needs one.
AI receptionist →AI answering machine detection
On outbound campaigns, the first seconds of audio are transcribed and classified as a person or a machine in 11 languages, instead of waiting for a beep. A voicemail can be dropped automatically, enabled per campaign.
AI AMD →Live agent assist
Beside a human agent's live call: a running summary, an Arabic-aware sentiment reading, a suggested response and a suggested disposition the agent confirms.
Live agent assist →Live transcription and translation
Agents see the conversation as text while it happens and can follow a caller in another language. Transcripts are redacted, searchable, retained by your policy and can be put on legal hold.
Transcription →AI scoring of every call
Every call is scored automatically, so quality review covers all calls instead of a sample. Reviewers still calibrate scores and coach agents in QA scorecards.
QA scorecards →AI call summaries
Summaries written from the transcript, so agents are not reconstructing the call from memory during after-call work.
AI call summaries guide →Automatic inbound and outbound blending
Agents move between inbound queues and outbound campaigns as traffic changes, across voice, SMS, WhatsApp, email and chat. Each company chooses Off, Manual or Auto, with per-queue control and an emergency stop.
Inbound contact center →Omnichannel inbox
Voice, WhatsApp, SMS, email, web chat and Telegram in one conversation list, with Customer 360 beside each thread and built-in ticketing.
Omnichannel inbox →Agent Studio
Where you build and govern the AI agent: industry templates, persona, knowledge base, a test simulator and test calls, versions with publish and rollback, A/B experiments and kill switches.
Agent Studio →IVR builder with AI nodes
A visual call-flow canvas with 40 node types, including AI conversation, intent, sentiment and summary nodes, booking self-service, language select and WhatsApp deflect.
IVR builder →Arabic AI voice agent
Arabic handled as dialects, including Gulf, Levantine and Egyptian, plus 10 more languages, inside the same contact center.
Arabic AI voice agent →The hybrid model
How do AI and human agents share the same calls?
The hybrid model only works if the AI and the people are on one platform. Here is the life of a call on each side.
An inbound call
- 1
The number routes
Each number in your DID inventory routes to a queue, a person, an IVR flow, a campaign or the AI voice agent.
- 2
The AI takes the routine part
It answers from your knowledge base, quotes only catalogue prices, and books, moves or cancels after a free-busy check. It says a booking is made only once the system confirms it.
- 3
A person takes the rest
Complaints, exceptions and anyone who asks for a person are handed to a human agent in your queues, which route by FIFO, round-robin, longest-idle or skills.
- 4
The human gets help
Live transcription, a running summary, sentiment and a suggested response sit beside the call. Supervisors can listen, whisper or barge in.
- 5
After the call
Recording, transcript and outcome are kept, the call is scored automatically, and a follow-up can go out by SMS or WhatsApp.
An outbound campaign
- 1
Rules first
Do-not-call checks, consent, calling hours and frequency limits are applied at the dial.
- 2
AI or people dial
An AI campaign runs scripted calls such as reminders, while human campaigns run in preview, progressive, power or predictive mode.
- 3
Machines filtered out
AI answering machine detection classifies the greeting in 11 languages, so agents talk to people, and a voicemail can be dropped on machines.
- 4
Agents follow the traffic
With blending on, agents move between outbound campaigns and inbound queues as volume changes, with an emergency stop.
- 5
Every call reviewed
AI scoring covers every call, and the results sit in the same reports as your inbound traffic.
You stay in control: kill switches stop one agent, one campaign or all AI calling, and every candidate sentence passes guardrails before it is spoken. Compliance controls are compliance-supporting; DialerBee does not provide legal advice or guarantee regulatory compliance.
Hear it
What does an AI agent sound like on a call?
AI voice agent demo — simulated caller. Layla's replies come from the production model; the callers are synthetic voices and the businesses are fictional.
Salon booking in Arabic
Jordanian Arabic · inbound · 49 seconds
AI voice agent demo — simulated caller
Clinic questions and a callback
English · inbound · 70 seconds
AI voice agent demo — simulated caller
Appointment reminder, rescheduled
English · outbound · 44 seconds
AI voice agent demo — simulated caller
Listen for the hybrid design. In the clinic call the agent answers questions itself, then takes a callback request for the front desk instead of pretending to finish a task it was not set up to do. In the reminder call it takes the new time and passes it to staff to confirm. Read the transcripts.
Decide before you route
Which calls should you automate, and which should stay human?
A simple test: if the right answer already exists in a system you can check afterwards, the AI can usually take it. If the call needs judgement, negotiation or comfort, a person should.
| Call type | Example | Who handles it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Booking, rescheduling, cancelling | Salon or clinic appointment, service visit | AI first | The answer exists in your calendar, and the booking can be checked afterwards. |
| Opening hours, prices, policies | "Are you open Saturday?" "How much is a check-up?" | AI first | Answered from your knowledge base and catalogue, so the reply is your wording and your price. |
| Reminders and confirmations | Appointment reminder, payment reminder | AI first, person on request | Repetitive and scripted; callers who want to talk to someone should reach a person. |
| Outbound list work | Reminder calls, follow-ups, re-contact | AI campaign or human agents with AI AMD | AI campaigns suit scripted calls; AI AMD keeps answering machines away from human agents. |
| Account or status questions | "Where is my order?" "Is my request done?" | Hybrid | AI can start; a person finishes when the answer needs a system the agent cannot see. |
| Complaints and disputes | Billing dispute, angry caller | Human, with live assist | Judgement and empathy. AI helps the agent with a summary and sentiment, not the conversation. |
| Collections conversations | Payment arrangement, hardship | Human, with live assist | Regulated, sensitive and negotiated. AI helps with reminders, AMD and scoring. |
| Emergencies and advice | Medical, legal or financial advice, safety | Human only | The cost of a wrong or cold answer is too high for any automated system. |
General guidance, not medical, legal or regulatory advice. Your own policies and the rules in your sector decide which calls a person must handle. Any caller who asks for a person should reach one. More detail in AI or human? Which calls to automate.
Measurement
How do you measure an AI call center?
"Containment", the share of calls the AI kept, is the number vendors like best and the one that tells you least. A caller who gave up is contained. Measure what was actually resolved.
| Metric | Formula | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Verified resolution rate | Calls resolved, confirmed by a system of record ÷ calls handled | A booking in the calendar or a closed request counts. The AI saying "done" does not. |
| Handoff rate | Calls the AI passed to a person ÷ calls the AI answered | Too low can mean callers are trapped; too high means the use case is wrong. Read it with the reasons. |
| Cost per verified resolution | (AI minutes × rate + carrier minutes + seats and fees + human handover time) ÷ verified resolutions | The number to compare across vendors, instead of the per-minute rate alone. |
| Repeat contact rate | Customers who call back about the same issue within 7 days ÷ customers handled | Catches "resolved" calls that were not resolved. |
| Handoff quality | Share of handed-off calls a person resolved without the caller repeating the request | Score it from recordings; the handoff is part of the product. |
| QA score coverage | Calls scored ÷ calls handled | With AI scoring of every call this can cover every call instead of a small sample. |
Worked example: a 12-agent support team adds an AI voice agent
The team keeps 12 Professional seats for the people who take handoffs and complex calls. The AI answers 3,000 routine calls a month at 2 minutes each. Prices are DialerBee's published rates; the outcome counts are illustrative, to show the arithmetic.
12 Professional seats
12 × $129 = $1,548
AI minutes
3,000 × 2 = 6,000
AI cost
6,000 × $0.60 = $3,600
Seats + AI a month
$5,148
| Resolved by the AI, confirmed in the calendar or system of record (illustrative) | 1,650 |
| Handed to a person (illustrative) | 1,050 |
| Unresolved: hung up, or needs a follow-up (illustrative) | 300 |
| Handoffs resolved by the team (illustrative) | 945 |
| Handoff rate: 1,050 ÷ 3,000 | 35% |
| Verified resolution rate: (1,650 + 945) ÷ 3,000 | 86.5% |
| AI cost per AI-resolved call: $3,600 ÷ 1,650 | $2.18 |
The $2.18 is before carrier minutes, which your carrier bills, and before the team's time on the 1,050 handoffs. Add both to get the full cost per verified resolution, then compare it with what the same calls cost today. The 300 unresolved calls are not savings; if they come back as repeat calls, count them. An example, not a quote. Work through your own numbers with the calculator in AI voice agent pricing: the real cost per resolved call, and track the rest of the floor with 26 call center KPIs and their formulas.
Pricing
How much does AI call center software cost on DialerBee?
Per agent seat, with no per-minute platform fees. The one usage-billed item is the AI voice agent.
| Starter | Professional | Enterprise | |

With your own model keys, your model provider bills you and a flat monthly platform fee replaces the per-minute AI rate. Carrier minutes are billed by your carrier. Annual billing saves 20%. 14-day free trial, no credit card. Full detail and three more worked examples on pricing.
Honest comparison
Four ways to build an AI call center, compared
"AI call center software" covers four different architectures. None is right for everyone, including ours.
| AI voice API (build it) | Standalone AI receptionist app | AI-native contact center (DialerBee's approach) | Legacy CCaaS + AI add-on | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What you get | Speech, a language model and call control, through an API | An AI that answers your number and takes messages or bookings | AI voice agents, human queues, dialer, inbox and QA on one platform | A mature human contact center with AI modules added |
| What you still build or buy | Queues, agent desktop, recording, consent rules, reporting, handoff | Usually the human side: queues, supervisors, outbound | Integrations specific to your business | Often the AI module licences and professional services |
| When the AI cannot finish | Whatever you engineer | Often a message or a forward to a phone | Handoff to a human agent on the same platform | Handoff inside the suite, depending on the add-on |
| Outbound campaigns | You build pacing and compliance | Rarely | Four dialing modes, AI campaigns, AI AMD | Usually available, sometimes a separate product |
| Typical pricing shape | Per minute, plus your engineering | Monthly plan, often with call or minute bundles | Per agent seat, plus AI usage | Per seat, plus AI licences or per-interaction fees |
| Main trade-off | Most flexible, most work | Fast to start, little behind the AI | Younger ecosystem than the largest suites | Broad, but AI often sits outside the core |
| Choose it if | You have engineers and a product to embed voice in | You are a small business that only needs the phone answered | You want AI and people sharing the same calls, queues and reports | You already run one and its AI roadmap fits |
A qualitative comparison of architecture types, not of named vendors; individual products vary. DialerBee's own limits, plainly: SOC 2 Type II is planned, not held; the AI agent speaks with one voice, Layla (female); and self-serve sign-up needs your own SIP trunk or PBX.

Rollout
How do you roll out an AI call center in 30 days?
Start narrow, measure against a baseline, and decide with numbers you wrote down before launch.
Days 1–5
Baseline and pick the calls
- Export a month of call reasons, volumes, handle time, transfers and callbacks
- Pick one or two routine call types from the AI-first rows above
- Write down what counts as a verified resolution for each
- List the calls that must always reach a person
Days 6–12
Build and test
- Start from an industry template in Agent Studio and set the persona
- Upload your documents and service catalogue
- Set the handoff queue, capacity limits and kill switches
- Test in the simulator, then place test calls in your callers' language and dialect
Days 13–20
Go live on a narrow slice
- Route one number, or run one AI campaign, to the agent
- Supervisors listen live and take over a call when needed
- Turn on live assist and AI scoring for the human agents who take handoffs
- Review every handoff and every unresolved call daily
Days 21–30
Measure and decide
- Compare verified resolution, handoff rate and cost per verified resolution with the baseline
- Check repeat contacts and listen to a sample of AI calls end to end
- Publish a new agent version for fixes, or roll back
- Scale, narrow the use case or stop, based on the numbers you set on day 1
Before you start, check which calls are ready with the readiness assessment, and keep the numbers in the same place as your other reports and insights.
Languages
An AI call center in the caller's language
The AI works in 11 languages: English, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish, Hindi, Urdu, Portuguese and Indonesian. Arabic is handled as dialects, including Gulf, Levantine and Egyptian, rather than one flattened Arabic. AI answering machine detection and transcription cover the same 11 languages, and live translation lets an agent follow a caller in another language.

Data and security
What happens to your call data
AI features are optional and off by default. Customer call data is not used to train shared cross-tenant models by default. Each tenant's data is isolated with PostgreSQL row-level security and encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256), and retention is configurable per tenant. You can run the AI on managed model keys or your own.
